Palo Verde by Moonlight

My latest painting -- finally, after being so unmotivated during December 2025 and only slightly more so in January 2026!!

The title is Palo Verde by Moonlight. In case you didn't know, "palo verde" is Spanish for "green stick" and is the name of that small tree/shrub that dominates the image. When you see these in daylight, the branches and twigs (and often the multiple trunks) are green.

The size of the painting is 8" x 10" / 20cm x 25cm. It's acrylic on panel and should appear on my website in a few weeks.

I was actually at this site many years ago -- north of the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, looking south toward the mountains. That day I was taking pictures using black and white infrared film, which gave the picture a nighttime effect. So I added a little color and a few stars.

I hope you like it! Moonlight in the desert is a magical scene!!

Superstitions

Superstitions is the name of my latest painting. The title refers to the name of the mountains and, possibly, to the name of the mystique that surrounds this rock pile. It may or may not be the site of the "Lost Dutchman" gold mine -- many have tried to find it, and many have disappeared during their search!

The size of the painting is 8" x 10"/20cm x 25cm. It is acrylic on panel, and no AI was involved in its creation.

Enjoy!!

Superstitions

Superstitions are, of course, funny kinds of beliefs about things; it is also the name of a group of mountains in the desert east of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Superstitions                      acrylic/panel                     18" x 24"/46cm x 61cm

And so -- my latest painting is entitled Superstitions, in reference to the above-named mountains. I wanted the image to have a sort of surreal, almost spooky feel to capitalize on the name of these rocks.

I've been to these mountains several times, but admittedly -- I never saw them enshrouded in clouds. But I have seen photos of cloud-covered Superstition Mountains, and I knew that was what I needed to do! Plus -- I want to get more into atmospheric effects in my paintings, anyway.

So -- enjoy the painting, and no -- I'm not superstitious!!😃
