Smoke Tree

The latest (finally)!!! Smoke Tree, 8" x 10" / 20cm x 25cm, acrylic on panel.

It's obviously summer, after the smoke tree has bloomed. The yellow-flowered desert marigold starts blossoming in the spring, but it can continue to flower throughout the summer. This particular smoke tree was located near the visitor center at the San Jacinto-Santa Rosa Mountains National Monument south of Palm Desert, CA. The scene gave me a feeling of solitude, maybe even loneliness. I had hoped to capture that feeling in the painting, but I'm not so sure I accomplished it. If anything, the desert marigold makes the view seem a little friendlier than I originally intended.

Oh, well. Enjoy!!
