In the Land of Giants

My latest painting: In the Land of Giants, 11" x 14" / 27.9cm x 35.6cm, acrylic on panel.

This particular version of a coastal redwood forest is a bit light on tree density, but I was mostly focused on how Lady Bird Johnson (in Redwood National Park, California) looked the first time we saw it, when a light fog rolled in and the air was luminous in the morning sun. It felt like stepping into heaven!!

I'm not sure I entirely captured the look we saw -- I took photos, but they don't really show the magic of that time and place. I may try again sometime, but we'll see if I can come up with it.

Note the humans in the lower right. A person spreading his/her arms around part of the tree girth is a common sight. They are BIG!!
